Healthy Living Blooms in 2017

MyPlate, MyWins

A Great Resource for Healthy Living in 2017

As a Registered Dietitian, I'm often told that many recommendations for healthier living are not realistic enough to fit into our daily lives.

In October, 2016, quite a few of the completely free MyPlate resources appeared in my Nutrition and Healthy Living Resources blog http://therovingdietitian.com/news-nosh-blog/2016/10/11/nutrition-and-healthy-lifestyle-resources

As a recap, the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture) MyPlate is a free program that provides tools, resources, and ideas for starting and/or maintaining a healthy eating pattern and lifestyle to lower the risk of preventable chronic disease. https://www.choosemyplate.gov/MyPlate

Recently, MyPlate improved one of its great resources known as MyPlate, MyWins. The 2017 calendar for this program is full of cool new rollouts for the public to use to achieve healthy living goals throughout 2017 and their lifetimes.

MyPlate, MyWins offers a diverse assortment of ideas that enable people to make healthy eating and lifestyle changes that can easily be incorporated into their daily lives.

Whether you're in an office all day, a student, a stay-at-home parent, running all day with a physical job, or working all night before leaving for school, the MyPlate, MyWins tips, tools, and resources can be used to customize a healthy eating and activity plan for all individuals. Take a peek a the “What are MyPlate, MyWins?” area because it is really interesting: https://www.choosemyplate.gov/what-are-myplate-mywins

MyPlate, MyWins “Stories from Families & Individuals” area provides short videos from “real families” that were able to incorporate many of the healthy eating and lifestyle "small changes" into their daily lives, even while dealing with their own tough day-to-day challenges. I think, the featured families in these videos are honest and inspiring: https://www.choosemyplate.gov/stories-families-individuals

MyPlate, MyWins “Make Small Changes” area provides animated short videos that will show you how to lower your intake of added sugar, saturated fats, and sodium by making better choices with healthier food substitutions. A new video will roll out each week through the end of January 2017. This area, also provides resource tip sheets for healthy eating and physical activity. Check out the newly released introduction video “Real Solutions from Real Families” and the “MyPlateMyWins for Beverages”. For future inspiration, plan ahead by making a date in your calendar to view the additional videos on the scheduled roll out dates listed in this area: https://www.choosemyplate.gov/make-small-changes

MyPlate, MyWins “Take The Challenge” area is a 5-week New Year’s Challenge using SuperTracker. This is to help people achieve healthier eating and activity levels to lower their risk of preventable “diet-related chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and overweight and obesity.” You can “take the challenge” here:  https://www.choosemyplate.gov/take-challenge

There are more resources on the main page such as “MyPlate, MyState”, which is really interesting, as well as links for professionals and how to get involved.

There's still time to sign up for the MyPlate, MyWins "Take The Challenge" or just have fun customizing your own successful healthy eating and activity program for 2017.

Enjoy this amazing resource!
