Everywhere you look, people are Trying to Find quick and easy ways to hit 10,000 steps or 5 miles in Each day.

Hectic days make it seem nigh to impossible to do, but there is hope!

If your health allows it, use some of the following ideas to help you hit your daily goal and keep on going in 2017!

Get Moving During the Commercials!

The average total commercial time during a one hour prime time television show is approximately 15 minutes.

If you got up during each commercial period and walked around the house, or in place, at a “slow pace”, or about 2 mph (miles per hour), you could add a total of approximately 1,005 steps (almost ½ a mile) within the one hour show. If, during the commercials, you stepped the pace up a bit to 3 mph, you’d add  approximately 1,500 steps in that hour!!

If you have a more sedentary job, take the long way whenever you get up to use the restroom, get a drink of water, go to another office for a meeting, etc.

Depending on the group size and if visuals are needed, try promoting a “walking meeting”, which is when you all walk and talk instead of sitting around at the conference table.

While working in any sedentary setting, set an alarm to go off every 20-25 minutes to remind you to stand for a few minutes and also walk in place or quick walk around your work space.

Use the stairs instead of elevators whenever possible.

Park in the parking spot farthest away from wherever you are walking into.

Take extra steps to do things such as putting dishes away, taking out the garbage, putting groceries away, (carry one bag in at a time), the possibilities are endless.

Walk in place or around when doing things such as folding laundry, brushing your teeth, standing at the grill or stove, reading a book, playing on the IPad, etc.

Get moving while waiting for appointments, for the kids to finish their practice, or whatever else you’re in line for, e.g. I stand and walk in place while stuck in the room waiting for the doctor to come in.

My grandchildren and I take dance breaks whenever we spend time together and we have a blast, lots of giggles, and add extra steps into our day.

I often increase my daily step count by walking on the treadmill while using my laptop to do email, participate in learning webinars, read online articles, do research, etc.

As you can see, it’s really easy to add extra steps into your day, so get moving and...

Enjoy the journey!
